How to dress a child for sleep? Which sleepwear works best and what should you pay attention to? Ensuring comfort and healthy sleep for children is very important. Find out how to prepare your little one, how to dress a child for sleep in summer, and what to choose for a good night's rest.
Choosing sleepwear – what matters?
How to dress a child for sleep so they feel comfortable and rest well? How should you dress a baby for sleep, and what about older children? Why does it matter what we sleep in? Ensuring optimal conditions for sleep is a good way to achieve effective night-time rest. Healthy sleep is the foundation of proper, healthy functioning at every age. It shouldn't be underestimated. Of course, the amount of sleep needed is strongly correlated with age. Newborns and babies need a lot of sleep, and how you dress a newborn for sleep is very important for their proper development. The older we get, the less importance we may place on what sleepwear we choose, although it still matters.
How to dress a child for sleep – choosing sleepwear
An adult can choose to sleep in underwear only, in pyjamas, or completely naked. As you can see, there are at least a few options, and each has its supporters. However, in the case of children, we recommend that they do not sleep naked. This option requires quite a lot of privacy. It also doesn't work well for babies, as without appropriate clothing they may simply be too cold. It is therefore worth choosing the best pyjamas that will ensure comfortable sleep for little ones.
How to dress a baby for sleep?

The sleepwear you choose depends not only on the season. We dress children differently in summer than in winter. However, it's not just the calendar period that matters, but also the temperature in the home. This is what should determine how you dress your little one. A good temperature for a newborn or baby to sleep in is about 20-21°C. At this temperature, it's enough to put a bodysuit and rompers on the child and add a thin sleeping bag. A baby can also be put to sleep at this temperature without an additional bodysuit, just in the rompers. However, it's often hard to set the ideal sleeping temperature at home. While this may be possible in winter, in summer it is often higher than recommended. If we don't have air conditioning at home, the summer temperature is usually higher and can even reach over twenty degrees. How should you dress a baby for sleep in such cases? Skip the swaddle or sleeping bag, and put the long rompers back in the wardrobe. In such a situation, a short bodysuit will do, and if that still seems like too much, or the child is sweating a lot, you could even let them spend the night in just a nappy.
What sleepwear is best for a pre-schooler?
How to dress a baby for sleep, as well as choosing sleepwear for older children, often depends on factors we have little control over. We can air out the flat before bed, we can leave a window open, but we can't always change the night-time temperature. This is especially difficult in summer. Summer nights can be warm and humid, making sleep even harder. However, we can choose good pyjamas that will help neutralise the negative effects of high temperatures, at least a little. How to dress a child for sleep in summer? In natural fabrics. Choose pyjamas made from natural materials. A good option is, for example, the green short-sleeve children's pyjamas.
How to dress a child for sleep in summer, what sleepwear to choose for younger children?

Good summer pyjamas are, above all, a short-sleeve set. If you're wondering what's suitable for a baby to sleep in during summer, you can choose a short-sleeve bodysuit, original one-piece rompers, which work great for younger babies, or a sleeveless bodysuit when it's really hot. In summer, there's no need to overdo it and add extra layers such as blankets or sleeping bags. Just like adults, they also feel the heat on summer evenings.
Summer pyjamas – benefits of good pyjamas
Good sleepwear should be:
- made from good quality materials. Cotton works very well in this case. It is a breathable fabric that lets air through, protecting against sweating and ensuring proper thermoregulation of the body.
- light and loose. Summer pyjamas should allow freedom of movement, they shouldn't be too tight-fitting; looser, more relaxed styles work best for summer days.
- comfortable – the comfort of sleepwear is especially appreciated in summer. An elastic waistband that's too tight will cause discomfort and prevent restful sleep. The same goes for unnecessary buttons, which are not welcome in sleepwear. During sleep we take various positions, and any such element can dig into the skin and cause waking up or discomfort.
- safe – it's worth paying attention to the certificates a garment has. At MyBasic, our materials are distinguished by the OEKO-TEX Standard 100 certificate, they are free from harmful substances and safe for children's skin.
- easy to care for. Cotton pyjamas are easy to wash and can also be ironed. Additionally, our pyjamas don't lose their vibrant colours after several washes. So you can wash them without worry.
