It's worth thinking about stocking up on nursing clothes even before giving birth. Some of them can come in handy while still in hospital, and after all, right after childbirth you need to be prepared for this task. Nursing shirts, dresses or pyjamas – it's worth thinking about this before the baby arrives. We suggest what's worth considering when going shopping.
Breastfeeding clothes – which are the most practical?
Experienced mums already know exactly which nursing clothes to choose. They already know their needs during this period and know what to expect. Mums who are expecting their first child, however, may have trouble with this. The choice of breastfeeding clothes is really wide, so it's easy to get lost. First of all, you need to decide on good, breathable fabrics that ensure comfort of use. A light, preferably natural fabric will be the right choice. It must provide protection against sweating and must not be itchy. Nipples and breasts right after childbirth and during breastfeeding can be irritated and more sensitive. It's also important that the fabric is certified and safe for the mother.
Breastfeeding clothes – what to choose?
Basically, the simplest division of clothes for nursing mums is into daytime nursing clothing, such as a nursing top, sweatshirt or dress, and those for night-time use, i.e. a nursing shirt or nursing pyjamas. However, each option must meet the basic requirements set for nursing clothing:
- easy access to the breast,
- ensuring comfort and discretion while breastfeeding,
- comfort of use.
You can choose models dedicated to breastfeeding, or select from available shirts, pyjamas or dresses those that make feeding the baby easier thanks to their cut. Here, the choice is up to each woman.
Nursing shirt – essential in every baby's mum's wardrobe
The best choice when it comes to nursing shirts will be a model with a dedicated fastening, or one with a deep neckline. A loose shirt will serve breasts that are sore after childbirth, and it can also be used in hospital even before giving birth. We do not recommend shirts fastened with buttons or hooks to nursing mums. Preparing the breast then takes longer, as it has to be unbuttoned, and women unaccustomed to such models may feel discomfort when the buttons press into the body during sleep. A looser model with a practical V-neckline helps with feeding – all you need to do is slide the fabric aside. It's important that this can be done with one hand, as this action is performed while holding the baby at the same time. A maternity nursing shirt is considered by many women to be the most comfortable model for sleeping.
Nursing pyjamas – comfort all night long

If, for various reasons, you're not convinced by a nursing shirt, you can choose classic pyjamas. As with shirts, opting for a deeper neckline should make feeding trouble-free. Taking the breast out from the top and giving it to your little one will be very simple. Of course, the cut of such pyjamas should be looser to ensure the mother's comfort. In the case of nursing pyjamas, pay attention to the elastic waistband on the shorts – it's important that it doesn't feel too tight. Check out women's pyjamas, which may work well for breastfeeding, and will still be useful once this stage is over.
Nursing tops - suitable for (almost) any occasion

Nursing tops must be more functional than nursing nightwear. Besides fulfilling their basic functions, they also need to look good, as they're meant to be worn every day. It would be good if they matched many outfits and allowed for putting together quick looks, as young mums usually suffer from a lack of time. We recommend a practical T-shirt with a fold-over panel. Its cut was designed with the needs of nursing mums in mind. The model provides quick access to the breast and the ability to feed the baby instantly at any moment. The design allows for two ways of feeding: from below and from above. Depending on the situation, you can do this very discreetly if you feel uncomfortable breastfeeding in public. In this kind of nursing top, you can easily go out for a long time and not worry about your baby getting hungry – feeding on demand is no longer a problem. Check out nursing tops, which will stay with you even after weaning your baby off the breast. This model will also work perfectly in the everyday, casual outfits of any woman.
