Blue is the colour accepted by the most people. It allows for relaxation and calm. It's a colour with a rich history, spiritual and reaching all the way to the sky.

Meaning of the colour blue

Blue is associated with the spiritual element. The name itself indicates a close connection with the sky. Initially, in Polish, "niebieski" wasn't even a colour name, but denoted a property, a belonging to the sky. It's also the colour of water, associated with purity and coolness. What does the colour blue mean? It's the colour of the sea, infinity, constancy. It reflects spirit, spirituality, faith. It's a pure, sterile, creative colour. Associated with freedom, openness, harmony. When it comes to blue, its symbolism is very rich and old - associated with the heavens, it is also considered a sign of constancy or fidelity. Something inviolable and stable, like the sky.

In darker shades, blue symbolises trust, and many companies use it in their activities, e.g. in logos, emphasising their credibility and honesty. Institutions also see the potential in this colour, using it, for example, in the colours of their uniforms. Many national flags also use the colour blue.

What colours make blue?

Blue is one of people's favourite colours. It's a cool and primary colour. Since it's a base colour, it cannot be obtained from a combination of other colours. It's from combining blue with other colours that we get the remaining colours. Red, blue and yellow - these colours allow for numerous variations, e.g. blue with yellow gives green. Thanks to the fact that blue is a base colour, we can distinguish numerous shades of blue, e.g. navy, cornflower, indigo, ultramarine.

The West did not embrace blue right away. For the Romans, strong associations existed with Celtic warriors going into battle with blue paint on their skin. It was also a colour of misfortune and mourning. Until the 12th century, there were also few mentions of blue in Christian writings. It was only the 12th century and the growth of the Marian cult that popularised this colour, among others in painting, as Mary wears blue robes in paintings. Ultramarine was associated with Mary, and since obtaining it was a great challenge and required great effort and financial resources, it was a desired colour, ideal for such religious purposes.

For centuries, obtaining blue dyes required enormous effort. For ultramarine, it was worth covering a huge distance (ultra - Latin for "beyond", mare - Latin for "sea"), and even then, obtaining it was very expensive. It was therefore used sparingly. Indigo was equally valuable, reaching such high prices in trade that only wealthy Romans could afford it. The process of obtaining and importing it was very costly. Today, fortunately, blue is a colour for everyone. And it's worth making the most of it!

Experience blissful relaxation with blue

The vision of an endless sky, calm water, vastness and infinity are views that are hard to get upset by. Blue is a soothing, calming colour, with the power to lower blood pressure and induce a state of relaxation. Despite these qualities, it is highly recommended for creative people. This colour also fosters reflection, thereby encouraging various forms of creativity. This can be seen, for example, in painting. Blue is also spirituality and religiousness, which shouldn't really be surprising, as it's simply a consequence of its connections with the sky.

Who is blue for?

Blue is a colour for people with vivid imagination, creative and artistic. Those who wouldn't want to remain anonymous. It's liked by people with a strong imagination, who value art, and who are perceptive and observant. Although this colour is the least often indicated as disliked, it should be avoided by those who value culinary matters. Blue reduces appetite, which is definitely not helpful for foodies or people in the catering industry. This may be a consequence of the fact that it's hard to find naturally blue food.

Who will benefit from blue in their wardrobe?
