The mantel is made of smooth, nice-to-touch knit fabric, so it "doesn't scratch", for which a big plus. It's also thick and fleshy, and quite heavy and unfortunately bulky, so it doesn't sit well around the neck. The burgundy color in reality is nicer than in the photo, and there are no rusty tones, which I was afraid of.
