Whether you're spending summer as a family in the city or out in nature, your little one's safety is key. Here's how to make the sun and high temperatures allies of the youngest ones. Norwegians say there's no such thing as bad weather, only badly chosen clothes – and this saying holds true in summer too. The right clothing is one of the secrets to protecting children from the heat, alongside proper skincare and water in many forms. Take note of these summer tips and get the best out of the sun!

Water for your little one

Bathing during the day might mean a trip to the lake, setting up a pool in the garden, or... splashing around in the bathtub at home. What matters is that it cools your child down – a temperature of 25-28°C will be ideal. During walks, it's worth having a light, natural mist with you, i.e. a spray water for spritzing the face and body, or a damp muslin cloth to wipe your child's skin. On top of that, hydration from within is a must – a bottle of water is really a healthier and better alternative to sweet drinks.

Goodness from the sun

Sunbathing means a lot of good for the body, including children's bodies – among other things, it replenishes vitamin D deficiencies and boosts the production of happiness hormones, i.e. serotonin and endorphins – but it should be done sensibly. Children get sunburnt more easily than adults, so it's worth taking care of daily prevention and remembering to use a cream with a high UVA and UVB filter – not just on the face, but on the whole body. In pharmacies and drugstores you'll find versions of cosmetics designed for your little one's delicate skin. Some children's clothes also contain filters, e.g. swimwear or beach T-shirts made from fabric that blocks radiation. We protect the youngest from head to toe – and here's an essential point: hats or scarves made of breathable materials must always be on their heads. In such heat, light and airy bloomers and a sleeveless dress are also perfect. We love the sun, but we enjoy it wisely!

Summer season hit: cotton

For your child to enjoy hot summer days freely, choose light and airy clothes made from natural, breathable materials. Because in summer, comfort is what matters most! What should you dress your little one – even a baby – in, to avoid overheating, restricting movement or causing chafing? Cotton! For a comfortable conquest of the beach and the local playground, light bodysuits in vivid colours, a baby sleeveless dress or plain bloomers - the iconic short-legged trousers fitted with a thin, non-restrictive elastic at the waist and legs - work perfectly.

Older kids will appreciate cropped leggings and classic short shorts for boys, which can be mixed with T-shirts featuring their favourite characters, as well as with basic vests. Vest T-shirts are the perfect summer solution, as are light shorts. And in this green cotton dress you can dance the whole summer day away – top-class thermoregulation! All MyBasic summer clothes are made from 95% certified cotton and 5% elastane for greater comfort for your little world explorer.
