Today, unusually, I'd first like to ask you something…

What childhood memory do you have? What has stayed with you until now?

I have many good memories. I grew up in the countryside, in a house with a large garden, and right opposite a park. In times when children could safely run around for hours wherever they wanted, when there was no internet, computers or mobile phones. But what do I remember especially? Whole days spent outdoors, free as a bird. The tastes of favourite dishes. Reading books on the grass. Sleigh rides, flying kites, making paper chains for the Christmas tree – things we did together as a family. Playing with animals. Making mud pies, cups from nutshells, galloping on a stick horse – nothing limits a child, their imagination is unrestrained, they can do anything! I could go on for a long time, because when I think about it now, dozens of images, tastes, smells and people come to mind. It all leads to one thing. To the question: what memories would you like to give your child?

The recipe is simple

Providing closeness. Whether with parents, grandparents, siblings or friends – it doesn't matter. The support of loved ones, spending time together, games, fun, conversations, even working together in the garden or at home, all of this helps in collecting good moments. It's important to focus on being together at that time, not to let your mind wander, not to rush, judge or compare. It's the quality of time spent together that matters more than the quantity.

A return to nature. Putting down the phone and switching off the computer can be difficult. However, it's a great opportunity to spare children a childhood without bathing in a river, running barefoot on the grass, or climbing trees. It's also about shared moments walking in the forest, on a farm near the city, by the river or in an allotment garden. It can even be something as simple as discovering green spaces (squares, parks, city gardens) in a big city. This is also naturally connected with movement and physical activity, which is all the more important given that obesity statistics among European societies are rising year by year.

Room for creativity. More toys, tablets full of games and electronic gadgets won't give a little one what floating ducks on water, building sandcastles or playing treasure hunt will. These are the simplest and most natural games, thanks to which a child gets to know the real world. It's worth making sure that from an early age a child is used to playing independently, not relying solely on carers or 'distraction devices' like the TV or phone.

Time for play and being with friends. It's often these moments that later give us many beautiful memories. Thanks to this, a child has the chance to explore the world around them, test themselves in different situations, and develop relationships with peers. That's why, amid the daily rush and many activities, it's worth giving a child space for simple play.

Supporting a child's interests. Of course, these are usually very fleeting and changeable, but it's also thanks to them that a child develops in various ways. So it's worth supporting them in these passions, whether it's origami, drawing, dancing, playing board games or observing wildlife – each one enriches your child with new skills and experiences.

Of course, the relationship between parents, emotional support, acceptance and love, healthy eating, good sleep and a steady daily routine are also important, but I don't need to convince you of that. Let's remember that life is made up of moments, and it's worth living them as consciously as possible, so they can turn into beautiful memories…
